Winning the Race for Christ

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 and Hebrews 12:1-4

Race

In order to mentor or guide others to Christ we need to be in spiritual condition to win the race.  That means we need to exercise our faith often to build up a body of beliefs.  This will strengthen our minds and hearts for the challenges of living in this world.  Also, by training ourselves through the Scriptures we will build endurance to complete the race with full speed to victory.

The ultimate prize we seek comes after our lives are over and we enter the Heavenly Kingdom and stand in judgment before our Lord.  If we have run with the zeal that faithful hearts can produce, we will win our race.  The prize is when God tells us “well done, good and faithful servant!”  Not only will we be rewarded with this, greatest of all praises, but we will be given so much in heaven that our minds can scarcely even fathom.

Regarding mentoring or guiding others, know that you are being followed in this race.  Followed by all those who are watching your character and determination to follow the Lord in how you live.  Not only do they follow the direction in which you are running but also the spiritual pace you set for yourself in giving all that the Lord has given you.  In short, we follow Christ who has run before us while leading others all at the same time.

As with any good long distance runner you need to find your pace and be patient so as not to run too quickly and burn yourself out.  Then, push yourself to end the race well and reach the finish line will all you have.  God is waiting for us when this race ends, cheering you on continuously to victory!
